International Women’s Day

Each year around the world, International Women’s Day (IWD) is celebrated on March 8. Thousands of events occur not just on this day but throughout March to mark the economic, political and social achievements of women. Organisations, governments, charities and women’s groups around the world celebrate this day and it’s also a great day to celebrate with your residents.

In the lead up, you could find pictures of famous women on Google images and have these prompt a discussion group on the achievements of women. Think Marie Curie, Judy Garland, Julia Gillard, Shirley Temple, Marilyn Munroe,FlorenceNightingale, Queen Elizabeth II, Queen Victoria, Audrey Hepburn, Mother Theresa, May Gibbs, Beatrix Potter, Oprah etc. Check these out for more ideas:

You also could mark the day by pulling out the footspas and manicure sets and finishing with a girls only high tea, complete with fine china and Twinnings tea. Cucumber sandwiches optional.
